Welcome to Chris Crafford Photography, where you can get back in touch with your soul. Chris Crafford Photography shows the work of Chris Crafford, an experienced photographer and environmentalist.

Born in South Africa with a deep love of nature, Chris was fortunate to frequently spend time in the African bush, walking in the tracks of elephant, wildebeest, zebra and rhino and the diverse species of antelope. Chris’s love for photography started when he was given a Pentax SLR camera as a birthday gift as a teenager, and soon joined the local camera club. Through trial and error, and the kind mentoring of many supportive photographers, he honed his craft. At the age of 18 he met Jerry Uelsman who inspired him and opened a new perspective of what can be seen and created through the lens of a camera and in the darkroom.

In 1980 Chris moved to the United Kingdom and traveled widely across Europe, always with a camera in his hands. In the 1989 he made his way to California where he started and successfully ran a wedding and portrait photography studio. For five years he delivered memorable albums and prints for delighted couples and families before moving to Colorado and then to Texas.

Chris now concentrates on nature, architecture, ruins, cemeteries and landscapes. His passion for photography inspired by the world around him, and the places he visits.

Chris switched to digital photography in 2004.  All the work shown here has been taken since.  He now works only in digital using Sony equipment. He is a member of NANPA (North American Nature Photographers Association) and a supporter of Nature First.

I’m a proud member of Nature First: The Alliance for Responsible Nature Photography and I’m dedicated to following the Nature First Principles:

  1. Prioritize the well-being of nature over photography.

  2. Educate yourself about the places you photograph.

  3. Reflect on the possible impact of your actions.

  4. Use discretion if sharing locations.

  5. Know and follow rules and regulations.

  6. Always follow Leave No Trace principles and strive to leave places better than you found them.

  7. Actively promote and educate others about these principles

The site also includes thoughts on life and creativity.

All images are taken using Sony equipment and processed using CaptureOne and Affinity Photo.
